STATEMENT

I am interested in a viewer’s intimate moment with a painting, one that is unique and specific. Relying on formal arrangements of color, texture, and brushstrokes, the foundation of my own work explores and appreciates all that the medium of paint affords me. Inspired by my time as an art instructor for toddler aged kids, their uninhibited and unapologetic approach to making art has seeped into my own scribbles and mark-making. I build up layers of paint, often working with opaque and transparent color, exposing the history of the painting. My works are all about creating equilibrium of opposing forces and honestly capturing the energy of my own struggle and process on canvas. The emphasis of my work is to focus purely on aesthetic qualities with the hopes of connecting intimately with the viewer for a brief moment of time.
